Thin clients and SUNW.... There're a huge number of thin-clientish things happening out there, from Psion's smart phones to R-I-M's interactive pagers to MicroJava on Palm OS to kiosks to automated home etc. etc. etc. THin client != desktop replacement!!!! Thin client is a device that relies on a network and server, right? And here, the bottom line is that MSFT's CE sucks -- its memory and power requirements are just way too high. THere is a big opportunity for someone (who can get by on 200kb and a AA cell instead of 2MB and lithium cells) to step in and establish leadership in the market. Sun could establish that leadership w/ Java, microJava, and Jini. The competition will be keen. MSFT is trying to buy the victory (w/ ATT position, among others), and it may work. Or maybe son-of-palm (what is the name of that start-up?) Psion or someone else will win. IMO, though, the market is real and very much worth pursuing. If one considers the possible markets for set-top boxes, smart phones, pagers, pda's, and then network-enabled thermostats and such, well -- it simply dwarfs the Windows market.
