More news regarding WebTV:

from Skyreport 7/21/99:

The U.K. Loves WebTV

Microsoft said tests of its WebTV product in U.K. homes suggest that the ability to access the Internet via television was the biggest attraction for users to adopt interactive TV.

According to Bloomberg, trials conducted over a six month period showed three quarters of the homes involved in the study found access to the Internet through TV to be useful. A third cited it as the one factor that would lead them to buy into interactive TV.

The test also revealed interactive games to be the most popular feature and concerns about security to be the biggest barrier to online shopping.

Microsoft is intensifying its efforts to sell Web TV in Western Europe. It's estimated that 17 percent, or 26 million homes, will be online by the end of the year in Europe.
