Sprint PCS to Add More Than 3 Mln Customers in 1999, CFO Says

Kansas City, Missouri, July 22 (Bloomberg) -- Sprint Corp. said its Sprint PCS cellular phone division expects to add more than 3 million customers
this year, buoyed by a new marketing campaign in third quarter.

Sprint Chief Financial Officer Arthur Krause said the nationwide wireless provider will add more customers this quarter than the 617,000 who signed
up in the second quarter. Krause said the company expects average revenue per customer for 1999 to remain unchanged from the second-quarter's
$54.

Sprint PCS, which has spent about $1 billion so far this year to expand its network, will probably spend less than its previous forecast of $3 billion for
the year, Krause said. Combined capital spending for 1999 and 2000 is expected to be $4.5 billion, giving the company the capacity to support 9
million customers, he said.

The company, based in Kansas City, Missouri, is on track to cut customer acquisition costs about 20 percent this year, Krause said.

Churn, or the rate customers leave the company, is expected to be in the ''low 3 percent range'' for the year, he told analysts and investors on a
conference call.
