I have done a little more research on Akamai, and am impressed with what I see. What is AAPL's relationship? Do they own a piece? If so, this is going to pay off as handsomely as ARMHY (IMHO - love those acronyms).
I'd love to learn more about the relationship...Akamai would be a great buy, should it go public.

>>"QuickTime is a "core technology" for Apple and one that's important strategically."<<

EJ , so true AAPL has many unheralded yet profitable software assets but per SJ's comment above QT doesn't look like a near term "spin out".. but SJ does head fake .

However one "stand alone" software asset which should continue to add to AAPL's bottom line is Filemaker .

Last year's developer conference was heavily attended and it is rolling out Ver 5.0 ($260 Win/98) with MSFT's Access in its sights .

FM claims "ease of use" and development is oriented toward the internet (JAVA).

Over a year and a half ago FM stated:
=====
" These attributes have earned exceptional loyalty from more than
three million users and thousands of professional developers
worldwide
.

According to a recent PC Data study, FileMaker Pro commands 50 percent of the U.S. market for standalone (non-suite) desktop database software at the retail level.

The product's popularity continues to escalate, particularly among Windows users.

Retail sales of FileMaker Pro for Windows more than tripled during
the last two years - growing more than 77 percent in the last quarter
alone, compared with the same period a year ago."

With AAPL's cash available for advertising maybe FM V 5.0 will dent MSFT's Access . FM is also a storehouse of multi-platform (SUN/WIN/MacOS) development talent .
