Any topic discussed by CNBC on-air personalities is certainly on-topic. All of the above has been discussed on CNBC.

Why are you trying to regulate speech?

Good post, Mark. My thanks for presenting a rational position without insults. But, I can't agree -- by the very nature of the conversation, there will be an ebb and flow around the central theme, namely CNBC; this includes coverage, people, and concepts. By your criteria, it would be off topic to extrapolate on Greenspan's comments today, except as they apply to the coverage of his testimony.

I see the value of SI as a wide-ranging conversation, and the topic of discussion is determined by the posters. I find this to be especially true in the "Coffee Shop" threads. The 'CNBC' part is merely the common point of departure, IMO.

You would have a much better case, I think, if this were a thread about, say, potatoes, and someone was trying to shift the conversation to extraterrestrial life. Not the case here, IMO.

Judging from the vitriolic comments made to me and others who don't think recent events deserve the attention they've gotten, and judging from the number of posts on the subject, I'd have to say that the discussion IS 'on topic.'

Again, I appreciate your rational post. Thanks.

jim

PS-- Try rereading VISXbull's intro post to the thread, and see if you really want to use that as a topic limiter.
