RESEARCH ALERT - LSI started at buy, target $65

NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Tim Mahon said
Thursday he initiated coverage of semiconductor maker LSI Logic Corp. (NYSE:LSI -
news) with a buy rating and a $65 price target.

-- Mahon said CSFB believes upside in second quarter came from stronger than expected first-generation PlayStation
revenues, with a potential future upside for coexistence of both generations of PlayStation.

-- Expects LSI to continue to make strategic acquisition in order to gain market share in its end markets.

-- Said capacity dynamics are improving as Gresham facility ramps and the Siltera agreement provide additional manufacturing
capacity in the coming years.

-- Believes LSI will be core in holding in current semiconductor upturn.

-- On Wednesday, LSI reported net income of $31.2 million, or $0.31 per share, over net income of $32.5 million, or $0.23
per share, in the year-ago period.

-- Revenues for Q2/99 were $501 million over $336 million the previous year.

-- Shares of LSI Logic were trading just above $51 on the New York Stock Exchange, up more than $1 from Wednesday's
close.

Let's see how much do CFO's get in annual pay? Hmm.. A very big number. Now we have several million people who think they can do at most half of this job of analyzing a company's operations. Yeah right. If that is the case America has a huge oversupply of untapped brilliant talent. I don't think so.

BTW Thank you Mr. Greenspan for [at least temporarily] helping to squeeze out some of the hot air from the big techs and more imporantly dampen the unrealistic expectations of people who think they know what they are doing.
