BTW: You asked what religion I am. The answer is simple, it's found in the bible.

Isaiah 43:10: "You are my WITNESSES', is the utterance of JEHOVAH 'even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and have faith in me and that you may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed and after me there continued to be none."

That would make me one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

I'll finish post on hell fire and trinity later....

Must go now....

Immortality and the eternal soul - I'll try to keep this short:
We'll start with Matthew 22:31,32 which clearly states that Jehovah is the God of the Living, not the dead.
Add to this the fact that Jesus speaks of the dead as having thought and corrispondence with each other and you have to conclude that Life after Death exists in some form. Luke 16:19-31. Take a view into Revelation and you see all the souls that were still alive, though bodies dead. The NT is chock full o' spirits of the dead. So how is the OT soul and NT soul the same? As Catholics we believe in life after death as an eventuality, not an immediate state, although there is support for that theory in the Bible.
Personally, as it doesn't matter what state my body or soul is in after death and before the second coming this is really a MUTE point. (because as you quoted in Psalm 146:4 my soul goes out and I will think no more with my body's mind... begs the question did they mean soul dies or soul goes out from the body... was it a matter of musical "good verse"?)

The Profession of faith that we say at mass states in part:"I believe in ONE God"(which refers to the Trinity as ONE entity)... "The resurrection of the body ""- how does this conflict with scripture which states that bodies are dead when dead? ... "Life everlasting" - which is God's promise to man (2 Tim 4:7,8 / 1 Corinthians 15:51-57, etc...)

So while we find OT messages that state the Soul can die(as being the same as the body) we actually get the SAME message from our Savior Jesus Christ. That being while we all die in the body and are swallowed in death, He will give those worthy eternal life on His day of victory. This is the same eternal resurrection which the Isrealites proposed and professed. It is not a FALSE teaching.

Regarding your last quote; I would not expect a Jewish Encyclopedia to quote NT to find evidence of life after death. It is silly to think they would believe NT was Holy Scripture.

Jesus said to the thief on the cross
"today you will be with me in Paradise".
