S&P Futures contract are a decent surrogate for the "WORLD". Really - everything international effects them... it's the leading index for the leading market in the world. If anything's wrong in Asia, Brazil or Europe it's instantly factored in.

Of course their are plenty of indexes you can watch to monitor market indexes for the various regions of the world in a more targeted fashion - visit www.cboe.com. Not to mention all the currency futures markets/indices.

Oh c'mon, of course Datek could handle such a global instrument. After all, didn't they just get checking? (Although someone did tell me a few hours ago that Paul Allen may have backed out of his 300 million investment with Datek. Dooohhh!!)

PA Trader, great point about the S&P, never thought of it that way.
