Spud - Spudding in - a well refers to when the drill bit first begins drilling into the surface of the earth. I just wanted to advise you of our progress in the start of operations prior to the drilling of the Hodges No. 1-X. 1) We have requested bids from the area drilling contractors for the drilling of the well. The contractors will submit them in writing for our review and we will select a contractor best suited for our well. 2) We have started the permitting process with the regulatory agencies for the State of Texas. We have to have a permit to drill the well and instructions from the state in regard to protection of fresh water intervals that we will penetrate during drilling. 3) We are finalizing paperwork with all of our participants. We follow a step by step procedure from this point forward. Each step is a prerequisite for the next. Obtain permits. Obtain contracts. Obtain drilling funds from participants. Sign drilling contracts and schedule drilling rig. Obtain water contract for use in drilling operations. Build location. Secure and pump water for spudding. Move rig onto location. Rig up. Commence drilling operations. Actual drilling of the well should take 10 to 15 days depending on the number of tests we run during drilling. At this time, we are running a little bit ahead of schedule. I had wanted to be started on the preliminary drilling operations (paperwork) by the last week of July. We are already doing that. Once we get the bids in from the contractors I will have a better feel for when a rig will be available, and once we sign the contract then the contractor will advise me of a more definite date. I would expect that we will be drilling around the middle of August. All of this takes a good deal of coordination and cooperation from all involved. It can be quite frustrating at times, so please bear with me if we hit a glitch or two along the way. I have generalized the steps and procedures for you, but there are many, many, other small things that I have to see that get done during all of this and I can promise you there will be some glitches. There always is. It simply comes with the territory. I can assure you that it will be an exciting time in August and I will do my best to keep you informed as we proceed. I will have you another update toward the end of the week next week. Oh.... I bought a scanner, so maybe after I learn how to use it, I will be able to scan in some photos of the rig during drilling. I am sure that some one of you posters can help me with that too. ok?? Best Regards, Rod Copeland
