From the management communication meeting - a CPQ employee said that Enloe stated Hellman had never been interviewed, let alone given an offer. "I guess he had his 15 minutes of fame". Likewise the other "press candidates" - said that "people were taking themselves out of the running when they were not even in the race".

Impression was that Capellas had been the front runner since June, and that is why they gave him the COO job (so he could oversee the management changes being made). That the delay in announcing was just due diligence by the board to give several other candidates a fair examination.

This guy pointed out that Capellas has another important credential - he is not a member of any of the three "camps" - he did not come from Digital, Tandem or "classic Compaq", so he is an ideal peacemaker among the factions.
