The one at work is barely visible against the white. The one at home is a slightly darker and cooler color, but still cream. No mistaking it for gray.

That's interesting. Ah, the varieties. I forgot that I'd updated it, so what I have now is Nav 4.6. My screen colors were set several months ago to a reference sheet provided by Corel Draw, but even if the screen was off, it's surprising you'd be seeing that kind of difference between browsers on the same screen (but, then again, Navigator includes some of the most creative bugs ever released to the public).

One thing I've noticed here and elsewhere is that Navigator's white background seems to be slightly more intense than that provided by IE. Even that wouldn't seem to account for the kind of difference you're seeing.
