GOTCHA!!!

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

You properly complain when people misread your posts and so respond to questions you haven't raised.

Edwards said "It is impossible for me to believe that anyone can view events in any other way than subjectively." (emphasis added) I think it is only fair to understand that her use of the word view was not simply see, as one might view a corner kick in soccer, but view in the sense of making some judgment about, as in "my view of the situation is . . ." Perhaps it is a distinction between observing and viewing.

Your examples are not of people viewing events, but reporting facts. Mr. Z committed suicide is not viewing what happened, but reporting the fact.

I happen to agree with Edwarda, and I suspect that presented this way you would also.

Oh, I would never discount someone because of subjectivity. That would be inconsistent with my belief that everyone views events through their own biased lenses, wouldn't it?

OK. A is A. Based on past dialogues (noun) on this thread, I am sure some would say that on some planet A isn't A. But we'll ignore them, shall we? And 4 is 4, and if you aren't color blind, red is red.

Spot gold closed somewhere around $255 an ounce, and a dollar is a piece of paper printed by the United States Treasury on cream colored paper, with green ink. Facts are facts. That's objective.

Now - is that dollar in your wallet real or counterfeit? Is that gold necklace 18K or plated? The truth is objective, but your opinion (without an assay) is subjective.

Ok, then. We see a man hitting a child. Is that abuse? Is he putting out a fire? The truth is objective, but your opinion without more information, is subjective.

Well and good. The final level. We see a man hitting a child, and there is no fire. Is it abuse? Or is it discipline. Here, even the truth is subjective. I can tell you what I saw, and what I thought, but you *must* filter what I said through your own subjective feelings about the discipline of children. I expect that. I don't expect anything else. I don't believe it's possible that people won't disagree, unless the hitting is so light as to be a joke, or so hard as to be a crime.

BTW, we aren't likely to go to court about whether red is red, but whether red is green.;^) And that doesn't really depend on the color of the light, sadly enough.
Is it discipline?
