Maxtor Corp. (MXTR) 4 31/32 -1/32: supplier of hard disk drives posts a Q2 loss of $0.51 a share, five cents wider than the First Call mean, vs year-ago profit of $0.12; revenues fell 1.3% to $524.6 mln due to a significant deterioration in the pricing environment..... Quantum Corp (QNTM) 26 7/8 +5/16: disk drive maker reports Q2 earnings of $0.05 a share, a nickel below the downwardly revised First Call mean, vs a yr-ago profit of $0.02; says shareholders to vote on proposal to separate Quantum's common stock into two individual tracking stocks: the Hard Disk Drive Group and the DLT and Storage Systems Group.... Komag Inc. (KMAG) 3 1/2 -1/16: supplier of thin-film media for computer hard disk drives posts a Q2 loss of $0.60 a share, eleven cents narrower than the First Call loss estimate, vs year-ago loss of $4.95, including a one-time charge; net sales rose 18.3% to $93.2 mln and 4% sequentially as average selling price declined approximately 6% between Q1 and Q2; tough industry conditions is prompting KMAG to lower revenue expectations growth for the immediate future; company to reorganize and reduce staffing levels in US operations by approximately 33%.....
