I have used E*Trade for approximately 1 1/2 years. I make two to four trades a week and can say that within the past 6 months my trades have been executed in seconds (when my ask and bid limit was hit), followed by an alert confirming the trade. Within the past month E*Trade has been a dream to use and the new web site that opened this week IMO is great.

There are more heavier traders then myself on this board and they can enlighten you if you trade several times a day. italiana

Rob, FWIW, my 2 cents...

I have an account with E*Trade with for the past 5 years. I do a lot of position stock/option trades (3 days to 6 months)...

- I have Fidelity and DLJ also. These days I use only E*trade. Because, overall based on fee structure, web design , options/funds etc.. I feel E*Trade is better... I have a job, so I never try to do intraday trades... (In my opinion E*Trade as a product is more like Accord/Camry than Mercedes(full service, GS)/Corvette(ultra fast ECNs, MB Trading/AB Watley))!!!!

- Executions are always timely. There can be a delay in trade confirmation messages on very busy days or in the first few minutes after market open. If you call, they will always give you the order status.

- These days E*Trade is targeting active investors/traders accounts (rebate for 25 trades!). This should bode well for active customers...

- If you compare downtime with other brokerages, E*Trade is not bad.. All brokerages are down one time or the other...The last time I lost a lot of excellent opportunities was sometime in January on the Brazil devaluation day... That much risk is there with any brokerage house I guess..

- In case of trade dispute, they are very reasonable in resolving, but there can be a delay of 24-48 hours...

Finally, whether you like E*trade depends on your current broker, trading style etc... But E*Trade is yet to provide ECNs and before/ after market trading...

Hi Rob
I've been trading with Etrade for 3 years now (around 100 trades per year) and never had any problems whatsoever.

Robert, they all have problems at one time or another. I have had 4 different OLB's, SCH, Accutrade, Ameritrade, this is the best of the 4 IMO. I would say have two and make this one of them.
