I E-mailed the article to the IR depts at both VISX and LVCI and asked if they were aware of it and was there a response. I called the LVCI person today and asked if he had seen my E-mail and the article. He had already seen it posted I think on Yahoo. It is old news. They used to use a different laser profile and adjusted it to correct the problem. He said they can tell in advance who would have the problems discussed in the article before the surgery is done.

I was hoping they might have something prepared to respond to the article but they are taking the approach of not putting fuel on the fire by responding to the article. If this gets blown up then they will respond. He assured me that this is no longer a problem.

Why don't you call Lola Wood at VISX, 877-463-6847 and see what she says.

Regards,
Bob

Hi,
After sending a PM, I got the Cleveland Clinic: Men's Health Advisor,
Volume 1/ Number 8 August 1999. The feature article is Making
Vision Sharper. It discusses the Lasik procedures in details and in
common language for consumer to understand the plus as well as the bad of 10% complicate rate of this procedure: technical problems associated with the devices and lack of knowledge on the part of the surgeon. For Lasik, one should find a surgeon who has done at least 500 of these procedures. The article also mentions two other procedures: RK and PRK.

One can order this issue: 1-800829-2542 ($4.00).

Gullapalli, before you have anyone make a permanent alteration to your daughter's eyes you may want to research further. Go to this site and compare the risk factors for LASIK to that of Intacs.

gimbel.com

The BBC article you noted states that the findings are recent and from Germany. And the Germans are second to none when it comes to solid science.

Also for other links to people who have had problems with Lasik go to

Best to you,
