Having never heard of "Manwich," I thought that surely my lady barber, who has an 18-year-old son, would know. "Haven't a clue," she said. After considering the it-comes-in-a-can clue, we decided it must be something like Spam. Were we anywhere in the ballpark?

I never get to have any of that kind of American-as-apple-pie kind of cooking. Everything is absurdly healthyhealthyhealthy. Whole wheat sourdough, the woiks. I have to begin a major campaign at least a week in advance just to be able to get pepperonis on the pizza. And even then it's not a given. In fact, come to think of it, the only time I get them is when the wife is on a business trip.
