Compaq advertising executive resigns
HOUSTON, July 22 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp's senior vice president for worldwide advertising and brand strategy has become the latest high-ranking executive to leave the company, a Compaq spokesman said on Thursday.

Andrew Salzman resigned ''to pursue other opportunities,'' said spokesman Alan Hodel. A replacement has not been named.

According to the publication Adweek, Salzman's departure comes at a time when Compaq is pressuring its lead advertising agency, Omnicom Group Inc's (NYSE:OMC - news) DDB Worldwide, to produce a stronger marketing campaign for its Internet business efforts.

Hodel would not comment on whether Salzman's resignation was linked to that issue, but said, ''Nobody asked him to leave or anything.''

Compaq, the world's leading personal computer maker, has said it will lose money in the second quarter and is looking for a new chief executive to replace Eckhard Pfeiffer, who resigned along with former Chief Financial Officer Earl Mason in April.

Since their departure, seven other executives, including Salzman have left Compaq.
