Thanks for the clarification. You are right, I dont have the background in the history. So far the "net" has run pretty smoothly but it has also stayed very simple in concept. With complexity will come headaches.

On another topic: My DSL experiment. No go for me! Turns out that there are two central offices each 5 miles away from me. Max length they support is 3 miles, so I'm back to being stuck waiting for cable.
