Well, eBay has NEVER had 99.9 percent up-time.

They go down for at least 4 hours every week, for "maintenance".

That brings them down to 97.6 percent up-time.

Then, I can't recall any week during the past two months when they were not out of commission for at least a few hours. They were down 45 minutes on Thursday afternoon, to reboot the system. (This does NOT include the major outage, nor any of the 4 to 6 hour outages they have had in the past two months.)

99.9 percent up-time would be great, but don't count on it any time soon.

Sure, eBay has a great business model -- perhaps the best on the Net.

But, they must execute, and that entails a lot more than keeping the system up. Growth was slowing even before the system problems, and growth is simply anemic right now.

There is a tremendous amount of noise in the auction space right now, and eBay needs to spend a lot of time and money to make sure anyone who wants to buy and/or sell online looks to eBay online.

The simple fact is that eBay IS, BY FAR, the best place to get bids and exposure when you have something to sell online.
