>Tell me honestly, don't you think there is something going on here that is beyond > shyster stock manipulation? Just manipulation along with the daytrading hordes playing as willing participants. BBS's were WAY cool back in the day. There were tens of thousands of them. Everyone was using them, spending multiple hours a day. Hardly anyone except porn sites ever turned a profit. Just because something is cool, doesnt mean its a gold mine. Nobody is getting stinking rich off of telephone service, but it connects the entire world. The basic problem with the net is that its popularity is based SOLELY on the fact that it is free. The only revenue source in a free-based content world is advertising. Take the advertising revenues of all major tv networks, all magazines, all newspapers, and all other forms of marketing and advertising you can think of. Even together, it doesnt add up to enough to support these market caps. Not even close. The "dream" is that everyone wants 20x more advertising in their lives now that they're on the net. That's all it is, a dream. Ecommerce will eventually slow down when the states start taxing, and the real winners will be manufacturers or artists who sell their product directly to the consumer.. Middlemen are going to be killed, for the most part. It all boils down to this: Hardly anyone has figured out how to make a profit on the net, besides selling porn and a few giant ISPs. "Investing" corporate cash into other money losing internut startups and watching them skyrocket on their IPO does not count as a real business. It is simply speculating on speculation. It's a pyramid scheme, for chrissake. Eventually, it will end. I've given up guessing when.
