I think Blodget freaked at not maintaining his star status. All the numbers were consistent with company guidance.

Glenn, do you usually do more business in Q2 than the previous Q4?

A bounce to 2775. Worries cause a drop to the 2600 level on the nas, in late August or September. We bounce but then drop to the low 2500's in September or October. This will be a health restoring drop which will then set the stage for a great run for 6 months after that to the 3300 level on the nasdaq.

I shoulda been a novelist.

>Because the good news was pretty good (not universal, ok) and we
tanked. So now what.

Now holders of AMZN hold on until the value investors decide the shares are rationally priced to reflect the issues facing AMZN:
1) Do they ever plan on turning a profit, and if so, how?
2) How do they really differentiate themselves from the competition?
3) Do they have any game plan for developing the Amazon name into one that is a genuine brand, like Nike or Coca-Cola? I know that's an immense proposition, but it must be tackled: K-Mart has stores and warehouses all across the land, and yet, shopping at K-Mart is as dry and unhip as gassing up your car at the corner chain-store filling station.

In the end, Amazon has to be more than retailer peddling commodity products with razor thin margins. The "convenience" plug doesn't go very far towards building a brand that people want to buy.

I'd be "shocked and grateful", if Bezos would have a good think on this particular issue. The stock price has been phenomenal, even legendary. But that doesn't make a brand with staying power. So what will it be? Why will I be drawn to buy products at Amazon??? Until Bezos decides on some answers, I have to wonder why I should want to buy the stock.

Michelle -- You know my bent -- Look at the GLOBAL economy. South Korean market down 7.5% overnight. Yen surges against the dollar and the Japanese government backs away from intervention after wave upon wave of yen selling fails to stem the tide. China talks force with Taiwan and signals devaluation may be in the wind. It is July. US stocks have peaked -- take your pick, there will be more bad news every day -- cause or effect, you choose. But the result is the same -- sell the rallies, if there are any, cause we look set to go down.

It's too soon to tell. Dow is only down 2.5 percent off the top. That appears to be the last index that would crack. In last year's debacle, it was the top 20 stocks in the Nasdaq that fell last at the end of August when the Russian default was announced.
