I agree about the excess on the one side. Since I have considered you a reasonable guy, I wish that we could agree that John, his wife, and her sister do not deserve to be treated dismissively in "compensation"....

There is some value and dignity to a human life. About the dead say nothing that is not good. We owe them that even if they are not wholly good. We are not judging them. In John's case, many of us remember his parents with affection and respect. John never did anything to hurt me, nor to help me that I know. But I regret his death much more than I can regret the death of people I've never known.
