You can tell it's a fake bizwire just by looking at the sloppy typing in the first line.

Look at the use of dots, dashes, and spaces:

Here's the fake:
NEWARK, N.J..--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1999- Recent

Now here's a real one:
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 1999--In

I don't suppose bizwire will sue the perpetrator for trademark infringement, will they?

Arcane,

Yes, I had also tracked the original back as far as Swanson's post on Raging Bull. However, I was giving Swanson the benefit of the doubt by allowing for the possibility that s/he might have found the story elsewhere in cyberworld. So far though, everyone I have asked either copied directly from Swanson's RB post or copied from someone on SI (who in turn had copied from Swanson's post). I did a fairly thorough search for the story elsewhere, and have come up empty-handed. And Ga Bard has posted that he called Business Wire, and that they couldn't find the story in their releases. So, right now it's not looking so good for Swanson over at Raging Bull, unless s/he has some documentation on the originating source.
