The following release by GTE reminded me of a topic of discussion we had here several months ago regarding the rollout of the G.lite flavor of DSL. I recall raising several issues questioning why any of the telecos would jump to deploy G.lite rather than DMT ADSL, or why, with DMT DSL deployed, would they opt to switch-over to G.lite.

IMHO, this article evidences the teleco response to consumer demand for broaderband DSL, rather than focusing on the deployment issue of narrower-bandwidth for the sake of extending the tariffed limit a couple thousand feet.

16 channels on one copper line probably indicates an explosion in DSL related capital spending by the RBOCs as they play catch up against COVD, RTHM and other DSL startups, and probably an explosion in DSL related acquisitions. I think the RBOCs say 16 lines is impossible, but I think they are lying and are scared!
