Not entirely true. Small planes ("normal" or "utility" category) are tested to higher levels of G-loading than transport planes. They are also much simpler, which means there's less to go wrong. On the other hand small planes generally don't have sophisticated weather-avoidance mechanisms or de-icing equipment.

Of course, all that is somewhat unrelated to the real causes of accidents, because most accidents are NOT caused by a problem with the aircraft. The biggest difference is the people who fly them and their training. That's where you find the cause of most accidents, commercial or private.
