<<Says Data Dimensions chairman Lawrence Martin, "I hate to admit it, but I've bought a
generator, because every utility company I've talked with says there will be blackouts and
brownouts."..>>

Still waiting for Sam's to get some new ones delivered. At least it won't be real cold down here in January :-) Though I might have to snuggle up to my wife some more. I guess there might be a baby boom later next year despite Y2K problems.

<: Fixing Bad Code Adds New Bad Code, Says Y2K Consulting Group

zdnet.co.uk

One reason why companies that fail to test their repairs carefully are taking a huge risk is that new code adds bugs. That's why firms really did need to have the repairs finished on December 31, 1998, "with a year for testing."

This is from ZDNET.UK (July 22).

Official clarifies intent, powers of disaster law

<< As San Francisco burned in the aftermath of the devastating 1906 earthquake, Mayor E.E. Schmitz cracked down on lawlessness by authorizing federal troops and police to shoot and kill looters.

Far less drastic means of keeping order - traffic and crowd control, curfews, food and fuel rationing - would be at the disposal of Eugene's city manager under a proposed ordinance on declaring a state of emergency ... more ... >>

Hi Cheryl,

How far are you from Eugene? ... Is this guy going to be dragging you from your garden and hauling you off to a shelter?

I don't care who started this chest-thumping or name-calling.

IT IS REALLY TIRESOME. This is the most childish thing I've seen on SI since I started posting here in 1996.

There should be room for various opinions - from one end of the spectrum - to the other. And, somewhere in-between ... WITHOUT resorting to baiting, incessent personal attacks and name-calling.

If you disagree with someone ... use facts or reasoning to rebut. Not personal attacks, and/or repeated "baiting".

Can't you guys just drop it already?

Thanks.

Cheryl
