Homes for a dollar

Updated 4:10 AM ET July 23, 1999
(FLINT) - Michigan's new Urban Homestead Program will soon be in place. Governor John Engler signed on to the project that is expected to spur redevelopment in the state's urban areas. State officials hope the measure will get Michigan's abandoned properties back on the tax rolls. The plan offers low-income families the ability to assume ownership of abandoned or vacant property for one dollar.
