The New England Journal of Medicine

Aldosterone and Spironolactone in Heart Failure

"The overall risks of death, death due to progressive heart failure, and sudden death from cardiac causes were reduced
by approximately 30 percent among spironolactone-treated patients, prompting the early termination of the study. There were similar reductions in the
risk of hospitalization for cardiac causes, and a significantly higher percentage of patients in the spironolactone group than in the placebo group had an
improvement in functional status."
