Reference to "earning". That is exactly what the problem of aol is. "making money" is a relative term. AOL does not make enough money relative to its share price. Neither does AMZN. In this sense, they are in the same group.

just my 2 cents....
the split did hurt amzn....land not the losses...everyone knows this company looses money, so the annouoncement was not an event...I think what was an event was the 7% sequential growth,,that was a dissapointment.
The split, IMHO, shows a bit of desperation on amzn's part....they need to have a currency to buy companies...stock wasn't cutting it for them and it is so important that it have a high valuation, that they tried to bolster it by declaring a split...market saw right through the sharade and therfor, that is why the big selloff.....Bottom line is the idea backfired and will cost them money in future acquisitions
