Martial Law< Special Forces Are Special: Not Used for Handing Out Canned Goods at the Local Retirement Home Link: garynorth.com Comment: The report that the British government will recall its special forces units from Kosovo and bring them home to help local communities deal with y2k is revealing by what it did not say. It did not say exactly how these troops will be used. It did say that the main issue is civil disorder. The SAS is not a weekend warrior organization comparable to our National Guard. It is Britain's most prestigious military force. It is used to kill people. If y2k is expected to be minimal in its effects, then the last unit you would bring home from Kosovo is the SAS. I suggest that you begin monitoring the Web for any mention of special forces, such as the Rangers, being withdrawn from foreign assignments and brought home. If they are brought home to military bases that are used to train National Guard units, then be especially concerned. These units are too small to be used for crowd control. They would have to be spread too thin. My guess is that, if recalled, they will be used for training domestic units for riot control and urban distrubances. If the British see the domestic problem, then the U.S. Department of Defense sees the problem. If the British are calling their special forces home, then I think the DoD will do the same. If they do, you can forget about a bump in the road. The roads will be closed. Look on a map for highway choke points. Where are major intersections on the interstate highway system? The interstate highway system was designed by law to deal with military transport. Congress in the 1950's called the program the National Defense Highway Act. By law, in every 5-mile strip, there must be one mile of straight highway, presumably to land planes. A military base close to any of these choke points is an obvious location for y2k preparatory training. Do you live anywhere near such a choke point? Pay attention to what goes on at any local military base. Have there been any recent changes? Start snooping.
