Ericsson to debut CDMA mobile phone Q2 2000
STOCKHOLM, July 23 (Reuters) - Swedish telecoms group Ericsson will launch a mobile telephone for the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) standard in the second quarter of next year, the company president said on Friday.

Initially, Ericsson would not manufacture the core parts for the CDMA phone on its own, but would instead buy them from Qualcomm (Nasdaq:QCOM - news), Ericsson President Kurt Hellstrom also told a teleconference.

In March, Ericsson and Qualcomm announced the settlement of a patent dispute under which Ericsson said it would support the CDMA mobile phone standard, which is developed by Qualcomm and mainly used in the United States.

At the same time Ericsson said it would buy Qualcomm's terrestrial CDMA wireless infrastructure business.
