Vertel Corporation CEO Bruce Brown talks to The Wall Street Transcript BusinessWire, Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at 15:04 NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 10, 1999--The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with Bruce Brown of Vertel Corporation (NASDAQ:VRTL), in which he talks at length about his company's future. The interview is available free online at twst.com He says, "Vertel manufactures software applications and components for the telecommunications-OSS infrastructure, which is the operational support system. The OSS market is estimated to be more than $10 billion. Our primary customers are the manufacturers of telecommunications equipment such as Lucent, Alcatel, Siemens, Nokia, NEC, etc. and the service providers who provide those services in the market, such as AT&T, Sprint, British Telecom, Nippon Telecom, etc." He explains, "We offer two types of software; newer object-oriented software that is CORBA compliant, plus our standard object-oriented TMN-compliant applications that work with older legacy applications. While the underlying technology is complex, it's very easy to use for the end-user. The main benefit is that it shortens the time to market and to product launch by 50 percent, or from somewhere around a year and a half to less than nine months." He asserts, "We have two primary sources of revenue: software licensing and services revenue. Margins in this space run upwards of 90 percent. The services revenue is when we provide either post-sale support or professional services where our engineers actually take our products and customize them in a turnkey fashion for our customers. In that area, our margins run in the 25 to 40-percent range. Blended margins for the company typically run in the 70s." Looking forward, he states, "We think that we're positioned well for long-term growth. We view ourselves as an undiscovered story, a truly unpolished gem. So, we think that those investors who get in now will probably participate, and we're looking forward to that."
