New York Stock Exchange, Inc.
COMPANY OVERVIEW

They don't call it the Big Board for nothing: The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the world's premier stock market and the oldest and largest in the US. The member-owned, not-for-profit group lists more than 3,100 companies, including most of the largest corporations in the US, and is actively recruiting foreign companies seeking to trade in the US. The NYSE is an auction exchange, meaning that stock prices are set largely by demand on a central trading floor. It has introduced new technologies that enable trades to be registered and processed more quickly, and it works continuously to increase its capacity. The stock exchange's predecessor was founded in 1792, and had become the NYSE by 1863.
