Hans, You're Our Rocket Scientist! Looks like the coordinates of the launch weren't in line with the plans of the stock market today, if they had been then we'd REALLY have us something! Oh well, with the stock market there's always another day ... glad the fuel supply proved to be enough for Mission Success of the Columbia liftoff last night! Too bad she just didn't have enough in reserve to carry the Market aloft with her too.
I'd be thrilled if a Golden Oldie Memory of mine from two summers previous to "One Small Step For Man" could help NASA now:
My first car was a 57 Chevy, and I'll always remember a fine summer day when my Dad showed me how to give it a tune-up. We worked on the lawnmower together first to demonstrate the basics and give me the hang of it, then we did the car which took just a bit longer. But it didn't sound so good when it started up. Then it wasted gas when we took it for a ride down the highway to see if whatever it was causing the rough riding would "ease in" after the tuneup. When my Dad saw how the gas gauge needle was falling fast, he said it's probably something wrong with the spark plugs. So we stopped at an auto parts store to buy another box in case there was A Bad Plug... but no, the plugs were all good... An Improperly Calibrated Gap I'd done was It. After this was corrected she ran like a top getting better gas mileage.
So, the market started out OK today, then almost faltered but made it at the Close, looks like IT was struggling riding on fumes too.
& Nasdaq had Liftoff, a small one, but it could have been worse.

Joanie
