ALL: . . . . Two business meetings and a convention later. . . . . . .I am debating whether I should take wife to the Liquid Audio concert/party tonight or save my energy for the big Save The Music concert tomorrow night with about 10 top name acts. . . .my tix compliments Yamaha. . .thank you. Anyway, speaking of manufacturers and acts. . . .I spent a good deal of the afternoon with Liquid Audio. . . learning the ins and outs of their company. . .talking which companies have the lead in internet music delivery. . .which ones have a snowballs chance . . .how far along some companies are in their products. . . . different marraige/partnerships possibilities, etc. . . .the future of Liquid Audio. . . .etc. . . Then watched a terrific demonstration, where excellent music artists would perform to us live, while being recorded and encoded by Liquid Audio. . . . they demonstrated the process of encoding that same music to guard against piracy. . .and watermarking it to guard against unauthorized copies. They then posted that performance on the website listed below and 10 minutes after hearing the live performance, we accessed it over the net and listened to a sample. . . then downloaded the whole thing with full CD quality sound [unlike MP3, which is merely compressed audio]. Nice trick. For those with Liquid Audio's playback software [available at LiquidAudio.com]. . . .Here is the link to the ACTUAL performances that I heard today:rms.liquidaudio.com @indie?search_type=AlbumItem&album_id=46rms.liquidaudio.com @indie?search_type=AlbumItem&album_id=47 One of their reps [who lives in Silicon Valley] happened to be a broadband nut. . .and had some fascinating things to say about various broadband companies and their products. . . I was surprised by how much of it was eye opening. . .that tells me we still have lots to learn about broadband. . .no surprise how much those in the tech biz in Silicon Valley are into the stock market. I am going back over the weekend to talk more and to meet with a few other music related internet companies to see what they have cooking on the horizon. Frankly, when we get the website up and I can justify my time and expense, I plan on traveling to conventions periodically to get first hand demos of the products that we can only imagine through company press releases and website photos. . . .this will greatly assist in the selection of great ones and the weeding out of the fluff. . . .what a terrific extension of the website. . .sending "ambassadors" to scout out companies and learn technologies. When it comes to technology. . . never guess or assume anything. . . see it, learn it, watch it work, then take it apart and see who makes it. As I feel I have figured out what some of these animals are, I will report to the thread, or website or wherever. . . it is vital that we not be fooled about ANY company, as we head into next season. Remember. . . .do you DD over the summer, while the market rests. Rande Is
