I've got some pictures from cases of young people laid out on a slab nude --- victims of motorcycle and automobile accidents. Ready for the autopsy. Some of them are curiously beautiful -- no repairs done. Just simple human beings with the wounds that killed them.
If you haven't seen some of the effigies of the dead from the 14th century where naturalism was the goal (Dr. de Harsinyi in an advanced stage of decay is the most famous (There's a copy in Tuchman's Proud Tower)) you may have an esthetic experience awaiting you. Some of the most beautiful human pictures are in surgical and anatomical texts. You should study these. They show people as they really are. Not all frills and cosmetic finishes -- but working nerves and muscles and bones. You should try to learn what people really are, how they work, how they live and die.
