Purely "Street Psychology"! If the good news of BRCM and UMC wasn't clouding the disappointing earnings news, ALSC would be around $ 4.
Street is full of desperate traders who act and react to news good or bad - that is why you see the selloffs and spikes. For the long haul, this earnings disappointment won't matter, since ALSC will come up with more good news and even good earnings. Somewhere down the line, as the Chip/Semi cycle enters into an expansion, Street is going to look at ALSC(with BRCM, UMC deals) and its book value around $ 20 and with some added good news will push it to the teens. My only concern is, for 1999, there is only one more earnings news out in Septemeber (the next one is Jan. 2000!) and if ALSC disappoints the Street again, the stock won't even make $ 10 this year.
