Yes, this is the argument against the conspiracy theory. But although recent years have resulted in net Central Bank selling there is never any comment about the CBs which buy the stuff when others sell. There is undoubtedly a media bias against gold - any supporter is automatically branded a 'gold bug' and terms like 'pity the poor gold bugs' are commonplace. There may be a knee jerk response among certain CBs to control any rise in the POG as the POG was traditionally an inflation indicator - but this is unproven. It's easy to think it might be true - but one could equally argue that the POG is a useful barometer. d
