VERY interesting comments/articles by top Y2K experts-Lane C, Leon k,Harlan S: They are far grimmer than 'opinions' of those who are not Y2K experts:

Interesting posts by Leon and Harlan and Lane at CPSR/WY2000:

Harlan, hang in there. We'll be hearing from the front line geeks
soon. SIM Y2K Working Group's study is now underway and it polls
only y2k project managers. Already over 80 responses are in. This
is the 4th year of the study which has tracked enterprises accounting
for about about 1/8th of US GDP since 1996. '97 and '98 comparison
report is available free in the "help for you" section at the WG's
website (www.year2000.unt.edu).

BTW, of the remaining 41 "high impact" federal systems still not
completed, 27 are scheduled for a "happy landing in
y2kcomplianceland" in December 99 or at some "unknown" date -- What I
don't understand is why the media hasn't reported this and
particularly since so many of these systems have the potential to
impact local communities (e.g., air traffic control, food stamps,
medicare, food safety inspections, unemployment insurance) -- Details
at house.gov. Yeah, I know
the feds say it's the 3rd parties that are behind, and that may well
be true -- but no one will really care where it failed when the plane
doesn't take off or the check doesn't arrive, they'll just know
they're in trouble. Sure makes a strong case for local community
preparedness (details at www.tma2000.org).

Best wishes,
Leon
