On the Coleman lanterns: a salesman at a Coleman Dealer told me that this u-shaped tube only lasts about 4 hours per set of batteries- he said he saw after about 3 hours, it started getting dim.

Someone else told me that the Coleman one with the 2 flourscent tubes lasts up to 24 hours continuous.

Maybe I can get a specific answer from calling Coleman directly, altho I have heard it is very difficult to be able to talk to a tech type there.

The first, when planning for months, even weeks of outages, is obviously not cost effective when planning on using them for liting for many hours per day.

The second one apparently has about the same battery life as the Rayo-vac and the Ever-ready very similiar lanterns.
