TBC close to live update #4 Marvin Jenkins to me when asked about the buyout (etc.) PR: "Don't sell your shares!" The staff @ TBC put a HUUUUUUGE effort into preparing for tonight's event. They have gone from acquiring and moving into a BK TV station that per MJ had not been used in 2 1/2 yrs., to a facility which was capable of putting on a good show if albeit a little rough. They have come a long way, and have a long way to go in a very short time, but are definitely achieving some difficult goals. Radio programming is originating from one side of the bldg, while TV (incl. stage, control room, linear and non linear editing [Media 100] and audio post production w/ a nice voice over booth) is on the other. Somewhere in between is master control which is currently passing through Bloomberg TV and a shopping channel (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this). The "coffee shop" is between the stage and production control room, and was very well equipped-nice bar, full-on industrial kitchen, and at one point, so many people it was very difficult to move! Anybody get an estimate on the attendance?? The dishes we've seen pictures of were TVRO's (TV receive only-I thought so, but wanted to make sure before posting). I assume they are used to downlink the BTV and shopping channel programming (++?). They have an STL (studio->transmitter link) antenna on the back side of the bldg which microwaves to a mt. top in the distance. As far as their coverage goes, it is true that 10KW (if that's what it actually is-read it in another post) is fairly low power for UHF (they are on ch. 43 & 45), however, per Gary their chief radio engineer (used to be a DJ on KCBS FM in LA-now Arrow 93.1 for 6 1/2 yrs.) most of the Coachella valley is serviced by cable--to the tune of 91%! By virtue of the fact that they have a broadcast license, FCC law says they MUST be carried on any local cable system(s). I am not totally well versed on all FCC regs, but I'm guessing they've probably got some temporary permits and licensing on the STL and UHF transmitter will have to be transferred from KPSP if not done already. Sorry to be such a gearhead---it's what I do!! If anyone wants more info please send me a PM. I will put my pocket protector back in and answer as best I can. Looked like dry runs (maybe 1st time?) for both AuctionsTV and BingoTV, but at the same time (and I did not get the chance to confirm this) seemed as though they may have been cutting demo tapes of both services. They were rolling tape on everything, most likely to be edited together and used for attracting sponsors, etc. IMO. Per "Doc" their VP of Internet, they have got a lot to put in place before either of these hits the "air." I asked him some very specific questions (whys and hows), for which he did not have answers...yet. I trust that before too long he will! Everyone I met was very nice, very positive, and very very busy, esp. Dick W.! It was good to put some faces to names, er, handles, and now that I'm ""out"" so to speak-of lurking, that is, will look forward to trading posts! Y'all have a GAAY day and a GAAY er weekend now, ya hear!! Maxx
