>But how much attention have YOU seen paid to the environmental damage we caused [in Serbia and Kosovo]? (Aside: ah ha, another example of the bias of the liberal media in failing to cover that. Hee hee!)<

I wouldn't dispute your suggestion that on the whole the media avoided some of the ethical complexities of the war, Christopher, but I don't understand what you believe was _liberal_ about this 'bias' (if indeed we call it such).

Other than the statement on the liberal bias of the press being the reason the environmental damage in Kosovo wasn't covered, I'll agree with the rest of what you said about nuclear power. Overall, I see nuclear as being safer, cleaner, and cheaper if we build good carbon copy plants, than fossil fuel plants. Having said that, I would prefer that we build more efficient houses, motors, cars, etc., instead of more power plants.

Chris,

Are the long-term environmental and health effects of Chernobyle (sp) greater than the long-term environmental and health effects of burning coal and oil to replace that power?

Yes. If you don't think so ask the people effected by Chernobyl who lost loved ones or themselves were sickly until they finally died prematurely. But they were not counted in the death toll if they didn't die relatively quickly. That's a high cost for carelessness.
