The real issue was the fact that sales dried up, and that Larson repeatedly lied. And all of the digging in the world wouldn't have unearthed this disaster because it was a loss of customers that triggered the debacle, and we investors were not warned in advance by the company.

As usual, you're right on the money. It's not necessarily management's duty to warn, but certainly not to obfuscate. Management did everything it could to cloud the real issue - the backup in the channel during calendar 1998. I'm also finally rid of this one. Nobody will convince me that network security will not be a HUGE business down the road, particularly with the entire industry model shifting toward inter/intranet server based applications, but you have to trust management first.
