One reason just might be that no one, not even "da brinka", knows which direction the market will move tomorrow, yet we all know that the next 10,000 point move will be "up".

Why stay 100% invested if there's little upside, and a big downside?

One reason is that most people have to pay taxes. Those with a long term perspective have to include taxes in the picture. Thus if you own Microsoft with a basis of 2 and sell it, you need a substantial correction just to be able to take the same position again. A 5-10% correction just isn't enough to justify taking profits in taxable accounts.
