IBM, 3Com to ink deal
IBM's Technology Group and 3Com will announce a cross-licensing agreement next month worth $1 billion to $2 billion, sources said.

Under the deal, each company will get access to certain networking patents of the other's portfolio.

3Com may also extend its purchasing agreement with IBM. 3Com already uses IBM's PowerPC processors for some of its router and remote access products.

The deal will be the latest in a string of multibillion-dollar deals for IBM's 9-month-old division.
