There you are- X defies easy categorization. I am neither conservative nor liberal. Because I live on a small planet called Earth- which at this moment I have no hopes of escaping, except by death- and maybe even not then (who knows? not I). I have the priority of the planet number one. Now there are problems with deciding what is best for the planet- there are disagreements between reputable scientists, but some things ARE clearly dangerous. The destruction of the rainforests, the depopulation of the oceans, the plethora of chemicals washing into the world's watersheds. There is little debate about these things. And these things will impact all people on the planet. I care deeply about my children and because I cannot place them in a bubble of my own construction I must worry about the society which will be their home. Do I want to pay for social programs? Yes- if they really work. I would rather pay more and FIX things than pay a bit at a time for nothing. I want to fix things partly because I do not like the idea of human misery (although I think it will always be with us- but that doesn't mean we give up) but mostly because the miserable are dangerous, to themselves, to me and to my children. I do not get the sense that the "multinationals" give a shit about any of this, and yet these are the things that are most important to me. I do not get the sense that most people think about things this way- even though ALL of us are stuck here, together, and most of us have children.
