Merely "Mental", Ron? There are a lot of brilliant programmers, engineers, software and hardware developers who would disagree And there are quite a few that aren't rarebird. Besides, programmers aren't infallible. After all, aren't they the same ones who got us into this mess to begin with?? My wife has been doing Y2K IV&V work for the past 12 months, including end-to-end testing with suppliers. I won't name the company/agency, but they aren't the largest, nor are they the smallest. And some of the crap I've seen written about that company/agency hardly mirrors what she's seeing, nor what her programmers/IT managers are telling her. They are currently using the system they will be using in 2000 and beyond. And rarebird, calling someone a polly-anna is hardly dialogue. It's demagogic manipulation of people's emotions in attempting to exclude scenarios alternative to complete and utter chaos. All I want to see is people engaging in preparations without the unecessary hysteria. Is that too much to ask?

<Y2K is all mental>Rarebird-thanks!Maybe THE most IRRATIONAL y2k statement I have EVER seen in my thousands of hours of studying documents, and one of the MOST DANGEROUS statements ever made, as far as its potential impact on innocent people seeking information and advice on y2k! For any not-yet-informed people reading these kinds of illogical statements, in addtion to Rarebird's correct responses to this, be aware of the following: ....we all know that elecricity WILL be disrupted, the only question no one can answer is for how long. When it is, it will be due to embedded systems malfunctioning, NOT someone's bad thoughts! ....when water is shut down and/or contaminated with chemicals, it will also be due to embedded systems, not some doomer having negative thoughts as the author of that statement wants you to believe and act on! ....when your toilet backs up, that will be a real physical problem, with a real physical source; when that happens, blame it on the fact that there are just too many billions of chips/systems to find.fix/replace in anything less than at least 10 years, not a doomer's skepticism! ....when the planes are grounded, it will be because of airports, as well as the systems not being compliant, not because posters here have made negative predictions, which the author of this exceptionally irrational remark wants everyone to blame, when his own comfy, normal existence comes to an end. ....the other malfunctions and breakdowns, each with their own cascading consequences also will originat with y2k problems. New viewers seeking information, just use common sense alone, and it will be easy to see thru such dangerous statements. Your assets, your health, well-being, and the lives of your loved ones and your own require your awareness, vigilence and basic common sense in automatically rejecting such out-of-touch-with-reality remarks intended to shift blame for harmful y2k physical consequences- to those who mentally disagree with him, rather than on the REAL physical, and unsolveable, at this late, beyond the point-of-no-return, techcnical problems!
