I want a nice world too, but I am pro- human, and object to a lot of environmental regulation in this country, so I am not eager to export it. I think that it is reasonable to address the larger problems, such as over- fishing or the depletion of the rainforest, in international forums, and to seek treaties to help with the problem, but I would not be very pleased to have us enter a phase of "eco- imperialism", where we impose our concerns on countries that are starving, or have an average mortality of 50. For example, there are plenty of countries where DDT would be a boon, increasing agricultural yields, and eliminating disease bearing insects. Environmentalists oppose such use, however, even though cancer is mostly an old peoples disease, and few of the natives have the chance to get old as it is...
