I just solved a major windows pet peeve.

Disclaimer: BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE TRYING THIS.

I always hated the location of the My Documents folder on C: because C: contains the OS and it is the drive that will go south when Windows does. i.e., it's not a good place to store stuff. I save all data and documents etc. to a different drive.

When you use the File/Save As function in ie, it automatically opens the My Documents folder to recieve the document. If you want to put it somewhere else you end up clicking through a long stream to get there.

To change where ie defaults to I went into the registry, (made a backup) and did a search for "My Documents". Everywhere it occurred I changed it to the name of the folder I really save to (Deskuments -- don't ask) and where the search yielded a path (such as C:\Windows\Desktop\My Documents) I changed it to the path of my folder (I:\Transfer\Deskuments).

Now when I click File\Save in ie it puts me right where I want to be. Haven't found out if I messed anything else up as I just did this, so PAOR (Proceed At Own Risk).

Now, it would really be great if you could do the same for Mail, Favorites, Cookies.
