Chris,
I agree with you about the coal miners. Their story is one of the most revealing as far as what the corporate heart of America is made of. Human lives measured against corporate profit never prevail unless people make politicians regulate the industry and protect the powerless. I used to be anti-union but as I have gotten older I have done an about face.

The christian church today has rightly rejected the democrats who are morally repugnant but have foolishly aligned with the republicans, the rich man's party.

I'll put them in a debate with the coal miners and miners families in Appalachian mountains of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Thousands or tens of thousands of miners killed in accidents or explosions or by gas, miners dying of black death, emphysymea (sp), etc. Less dramatic, but just as deadly.

Worth mentioning here that Australia's coal industry has reduced these problems to a tiny fraction of what they are in the US. Consequence of those nasty ol' government regulations.
